Bulimba State School (BSS) is located on a very steep inner-city site. The new library and classroom building at BSS responds to student growth and carefully considers the heritage significance of views to and within the site, the campus culture and environment, and client needs.
The building was sited to allow for linkages from each level to four existing built platforms that stagger down the site. The new library was positioned to centralise this facility within the site and vertically between levels. A roof terrace for students extends the library maker space with an outdoor learning area enjoying spectacular views. The new GLA building also creates an entry forecourt to the Hall which was also completed by Biscoe Wilson Architects and incorporates a Stephanie Alexander Teaching Kitchen. Locations for gardens that support the Kitchen Garden Program have been carefully maintained with solar access on both side of the new building.
